The Adaptive is not like other enemies.
It learns your behaviour - favouring attacks that succeed, and abandoning those that fail.
It targets your weak points, striking at allies whose affinity leaves them vulnerable.
Every decision you make changes how it fights.
This is not a battle.
This is survival.
[DIRECTIVE ONE: COMBAT]

Turn-Based System – All party members act before the Adaptive responds.
Parry attacks - Nullify attacks by hitting the RMB at the right time - Doing so will give you AP.

Elemental Affinities – Striking with an element forces the Adaptive to adopt it.

Counter-element = massive damage.

Same element = nullified strike.

Elemental Wheel – Always visible on the HUD (right side). Study it. Exploit it. (Fire weak to water, Water weak to Electric etc)

[DIRECTIVE TWO: PARTY SYNERGY]

Turn order is displayed on the left. Plan your chain of actions.

Character portraits on the right show your allies. The small elemental icons above their HP reveal which elements they can call upon.

If one ally shifts the Adaptive to Fire, line up the next ally to strike with Water for critical damage.

Bait the Adaptive by leaving your tank in an exploitable affinity - but protect the weak.

There are many more tactics for bending the creature’s adaptiveness to your advantage.

Gained by parrying or by landing basic attacks.

Spells and abilities consume AP.

Affinity Shifts:

Basic attacks do not change your element.

Abilities will always change your element.

The Sword icon = damage type.

The Shield icon = resulting affinity.

Very dope concept and love the way it makes you plan each turn with every character. It's like classic turn-based with a strategy twist. Felt like there was a big cog missing when one of the characters died that I had to plan around. Really well done and fun!
Great explloration of turn based games and boss ai. Definitely felt the changes as the fight went on. Tried a couple of times and found the gameplay in each attempt to be varied and unpredictable in a very fun way. Wish I could revive my fallen comrades (RIP Wukong) but the last man standing vibe was a surprisingly immersive factor! Good work making a mean boss 👏🏻
